From lecture slides to exam-ready notes: a study workflow that works
Lecture slides are written to be presented, not studied. They're full of fragments, and the explanation that happened out loud in the lecture is missing. Here's a weekly routine that turns them into something you can revise from.
1. Consolidate within 24 hours
Memory of a lecture fades fast. Within a day, combine the slides with anything you noted during the lecture into one set of notes. This is where an AI study notes generator saves the most time: it reorganises fragmented slides into topics, explains key concepts in full sentences, and puts definitions in bold. Read the result critically and add anything your lecturer emphasised that isn't on the slides.
2. Pull out the essentials
Some subjects are mostly definitions and formulas. For those, a focused list is more useful than prose. Lecture notes extraction produces exactly that: definitions, formulas with what each symbol means, and key concepts.
3. Make it testable
Re-reading feels productive but is one of the weakest ways to study. Retrieval practice, trying to recall information without looking, is far more effective. Turn each week's notes into:
- Flashcards for facts and terminology. Import them into a spaced-repetition app (see our flashcards guide).
- A practice quiz with an answer key for understanding-level questions. Try the quiz generator.
4. Check against the source
AI is a fast first draft, not an authority. FilePro's notes reference the slide or page each point came from, so you can check anything that looks off. If your course has specific notation or definitions, those always win.
5. Review weekly, not just before exams
Fifteen minutes of flashcards most days beats a six-hour cram. Set a weekly study goal in the Student Center and keep an eye on your streak.
What AI won't do for you
It won't understand the material for you. Use the time it saves on formatting and summarising to do the part that matters: testing yourself, working problems, and asking questions about what you don't get.
